WINNIPEG – The new year is here, along with a number of new tax benefits for Manitobans.

Among them, a 2.2 per cent increase in the basic personal amount and other income tax brackets which leaves people with more tax-free income.

The province also plans to phase out education property taxes this year.

Federally, Canada Pension Plan premiums go up today to boost retirement benefits through the public plan.
