WINNIPEG, MB – Witnesses help police identify and charge a 32-year-old who hit a pedestrian on Wellington Avenue.
Friday, February 2 at around 6:30PM, a 44-year-old man was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The man was transported to hospital in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.
Police said the victim was walking south bound on the sidewalk of Lipton Street. As he crossed Wellington Avenue he was struck by a vehicle travelling west bound on Wellington. The impact sent the man onto the hood of the vehicle, over the roof and then onto the west bound lane of the road. The driver fled the scene and never called for help for the pedestrian who was struck. A passer-by called 911 and began performing first aid on the victim until paramedics arrived.
Witnesses provided police with information that allowed them to locate the suspect at a home.
Police have charged a 32-year-old with Fail to Stop of Scene of Accident and Drive Carelessly.
