WINNIPEG – Manitoba will need and get a third area code in a few years to go along with 204 and 431.

Kelly Walsh at the Canadian Numbering Administrator says the new three digits will be 584.

The need for another area code is being driven by competition from new carriers and an increase in devices and services that require a phone number.
