WINNIPEG – A 42 year-old Winnipeg woman was charged with assaulting a peace officer and driving while impaired as she tried to run down officers as they tried to stop her.

The suspect was first noticed driving her Dodge Caravan erratically at 11:30 pm. on Ellice Avenue. When police followed her, she stopped abruptly and put the van in reverse, forcing the officers to jump out of the way.

One officer then approached the passenger side of the vehicle and repeatedly ordered the driver to stop the vehicle as it continued backing up. The driver then put the vehicle in drive and drove over the foot of the officer and fled at a high rate of speed.
