9 Year-Old Child Has Knife Held to Throat During Robbery

WINNIPEG – A 9 year-old child had a knife held to his neck, after his father tried to buy a cell phone through an online ad.

The victim agreed to meet the seller on September 3, outside of a business on McGee Street. When he arrived with his son, the suspect pulled a knife and held it to the child’s throat while demanding money from the father. The victim provided the suspect with $100 cash and the suspect fled. The child was not physically injured.

On September 4, at 8:00 p.m., a 43-year-old male responded to an online advertisement regarding an iPhone X for sale and agreed to meet the seller outside a business on McGee Street. Upon meeting the seller, he was handed a phone which was not an iPhone. The seller produced a knife and demanded the victim’s money. He was given $400 and fled. The victim was not injured.

On September 6, at 3:00 p.m., after responding to an online advertisement regarding a cell phone for sale, a 37-year-old male agreed to meet the seller outside a business on McGee Street. Upon meeting, the seller left for a short time, indicating he had to get the cell phone. He returned with a knife and robbed the victim of $800 cash. The victim was not injured.

On September 12, at 1:30 p.m., after responding to an online advertisement regarding an iPhone XS, a 59-year-old male agreed to meet the seller outside a business on McGee Street. He was met by the seller who asked to sit in the victim’s vehicle. Once in the vehicle, the seller produced a knife and demanded the victim’s cell phone and cash. The suspect obtained $450 cash and an iPhone and fled. The victim was not injured.

After an investigation Winnipeg Police officers arranged to make a purchase from the seller on September 15, 2019. The seller approached an unmarked police vehicle armed with a knife and was taken safely into custody after a short foot pursuit.
