WINNIPEG – Thanks to almost $75 million in federal money, Mayor Brian Bowman has managed to balance the 2021 budget.
The document proposes over $150 million in road renewal. There ‘s also money for libraries, recreational facilities and trees. However, police are being asked to find millions of dollars in savings.
The city’s property taxes would be capped at 2.33 per cent, increasing what the average Winnipegger pays by about $42.
The budget also includes a grant of $1,500 for small businesses impacted by COVID-19 but critics are saying it’s not enough and the money is needed now, not next year.
