WINNIPEG – At least the polar bears are happy with weather and they want you to join them for breakfast this Saturday morning!
The Assiniboine Park Zoo is inviting Zoo visitors to enjoy Breakfast with the Bears on Saturday mornings from January 26 to February 23. In addition to breakfast at the Tundra Grill, visitors can also enjoy a zoo chat with a member of the polar bear care team, crafts for kids, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
“Winter is wonderful time to experience the Zoo,” said Laura Cabak, Manager, Communications & Public Relations, Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “Many of our animals, like polar bears, come from cold or mountainous regions of the world and are very active during the winter. Breakfast with the Bears is a great opportunity to learn about our polar bears and how these animals have adapted to survive in the Arctic.”
Breakfast with the Bears will take place every Saturday from January 26 to February 23 and includes the following activities:
Breakfast at the Tundra Grill | 9:00 am – 11:00 am
The Tundra Grill serves up a variety of affordable and family-friendly menu items and overlooks the Zoo’s largest polar bear habitat through a 150-foot-wide wall of floor to ceiling windows. ($)
Zoo Chats at the Tundra Grill | 10:30 am
The Zoo is currently home to 10 polar bears, each with their own story and unique personality. Learn about the Zoo’s polar bears, seasonal polar bear behaviour, and how these animals are perfectly adapted to thrive in our Winnipeg winters. This is also a great opportunity to ask all your burning polar bear questions!
Craft Station at Gateway to the Arctic | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Children are invited stop at our craft station and create a polar bear friendship bracelet from recycled textiles. Our friendly volunteers will be there to lend a helping hand and offer practical examples for how visitors can reduce the impact of fabric on the environment at home.
Assiniboine Park Zoo is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Regular Zoo admission applies. Breakfast must be purchased separately.
