WINNIPEG – CoVid-19 has claimed several community newspapers. Postmedia Network, which owns the Winnipeg Sun, has decided to permanently shut down 15 weekly papers in Manitoba and Ontario because of falling advertising revenue. This puts 80 people out of work. The publications include the Gimli Interlake Spectator, Selkirk Journal, Altona Red River Valley Echo, Stonewall Argus and Winkler Times. The paper in Portage La Prairie is the only smaller Postmedia publication in this province to survive. Final print editions will run next week.
