WINNIPEG – The province has given Manitobans a fiscal update and it’s not pretty. Finance Minister Scott Fielding says because of CoVid-19, the deficit could top $5 billion this year. The math is simple but pretty ugly. Provincial revenues are down $3 billion, while costs are up $2 billion. The price of personal protective equipment alone could hit $1 billion. To help pay the bill, non-essential jobs in the public sector have been identified for temporary layoff but there’s not much detail on that at this point.
