WINNIPEG – The city is reporting a first quarter deficit of $25.8 million. That figure is in a new fiscal status report.

The year-end shortfall is predicted to be $53.8 million.

The main reason for all the red ink is the CoVid-19 pandemic we’re told it could have been worse. Action taken so far has saved $12.9 million.

“The City has been working to address the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to ensure residents receive the services they depend on,” said Councillor Scott Gillingham, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance. However, actions taken to date and possible future steps…will continue to support the City’s ability to respond and maintain services for residents.”
