WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg man was charged for riding his bicycle on the sidewalk and for carrying a concealed weapon.

On Sunday night, December 29, Police were patrolling Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street when they noticed a man known to them riding a bicycle on a sidewalk.

The man was stopped and was placed under arrest after a sawed-off pump-action shotgun was seen in his bag, along with an imitation ballistics vest.

The shotgun was later found to be stolen from a residence in the Selkirk area in April 2008. The bicycle was also stolen and had been taken from the Logan Avenue and McPhillips Street area in August 2019.

Police charged James Thomas Wiebe, a 28-year-old man from Winnipeg with:

– Possession of a Weapon

– Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

– Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

– Operate a bicycle on a sidewalk with a rear wheel diameter larger than 410 mm (Highway Traffic Act)
