WINNIPEG – The Humane Society wants the exporting of live horses for slaughter to stop.
This after a video showed dozens of horses standing on the freezing tarmac at Winnipeg’s airport waiting to be shipped to Japan to be eaten.
The society says exposing the horses to severe weather, extreme stress and excessive travel makes this industry indisputably inhumane.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it doesn’t have the authority to deny export shipments if they’re in compliance with the regulations of the importing country.
