WINNIPEG – Five City-owned community centres will be receiving funding for renovations in the upcoming year.

Mayor Brian Bowman made the announcement on Monday stating , “Community centres are at the heart of where we come together as neighbours, friends, and families. They’re gathering places where residents celebrate many different milestones and aspects of life and it’s important to support upgrades and renovations to our many different community centres across the city.”

The Community Centre Renovation Grant (CCRG) program received and approved five applications from the fall 2018 intake period for a combined total of $146,147.02 in grant funding. Since the program’s inception, the City has invested $5,947,764.76 towards 151 different community centre applications for renovations across the city.

The community centres receiving grants are:

Gateway Recreation Centre Inc.

Tuxedo Community Centre

Maples Recreation Association Inc.

Valour Community Centre Inc.

Park City West Community Club

The CCRG program was adopted by Council in 2012. The program ensures that City-owned, board-run community centres can access much-needed assistance required to complete facility repairs and allows them the ability to set programming priorities.

The program provides up to $965,000 in total annual funding for community centres to access in support of repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements and renovation projects. Each community centre applicant is eligible for 100 percent support of project costs to a maximum of $50,000 per project per calendar year.

The program has two intake periods each year: a spring intake in March and a fall intake in October. October 2018 was the fourteenth application period for the program.
