Crime is on the minds of many Winnipegers, said Winnipeg City Council candidate for Charleswood/Tuxedo, Kevin Klein.

Klein said the one thing people are telling him most while he’s knocking on doors is their concern about crime. Everything from car break-ins to vandalism and drugs. While other issues have been on the minds of residents of this ward, crime tops the list and leads the discussion almost all the time. People are looking for leadership.

“As I spend more and more time touching base with neighbours and constituents of Charleswood-Tuxedo I’ve been moved by how concerned they are with the amount of crime they’re experiencing in our neighbourhood. I knew it was a concern, but not to the degree it has been expressed to me over and over,” said Klein.

Klein takes these concerns very seriously and has promised action on behalf of residents. That’s why he has engaged members of our Winnipeg Police Association and others to join in a town hall meeting to talk about what they’re seeing as well as possible solutions to the problems our community is facing.

“There’s no quick fix to the problem, but I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure our neighbourhoods are safe for all our families,” added Klein. “We need to engage more than just the police, working with others including the province and mental health and addictions professionals in a collaborative, cooperative and inclusive manner is required and will be much more effective than the current approach that’s obviously not working.

The town hall is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Park West Inn.

The president and vice president of the Winnipeg Police Association are among those who will be on hand to speak and more importantly to listen. All Charleswood-Tuxedo residents are welcome, said Klein. “I look forward to hearing from more people as we tackle the challenges to our community.”
