Long Delays At Vital Statistics

Manitoba Post StaffNews

WINNIPEG – As a possible flood of wedding plans, and associated paperwork, follows Valentine’s Day, the Province of Manitoba says its Vital Statistics document processing wait times are up, largely due to outdated technology.

The backlog is causing delays for new events registration and regular issuance of marriage, birth, and other certificates.

The agency says they continue to revamp their processing systems, and expect those wait times to get 20 per cent better within a couple of months as a result.

The province says the agency has still been able to continue to process rush document applications in three days for events that are fully registered.

A recent study by Ebates found that 57 per cent of Canadians think a Valentine’s Day proposal is a good idea.
