SELKIRK – A 56-year-old man opened fire on RCMP officers in Selkirk over the weekend.

Saturday night, around 9:50 PM, Selkirk RCMP responded to a 911 hang up call at a rural home in the RM of St. Andrews. Mounties went to the home to ensure the safety of any residents. When officers arrived, a man came out of the house shouting at officers to leave his property. He then went back into the house briefly, returned with a gun and fired one shot.

None of the officers were hit, and they were able to get to a safe area. The officers did not return fire, and the man went back in the home. The RCMP Emergency Response Team and Manitoba East District Containment Team were sent to the scene.

More shots were fired by the same man during the early morning hours on Sunday, July 1st. A short time later, the man was arrested without incident. An woman was also at the home during the incident. Nobody was injured.

Police say several firearms were seized from the home.

Sven Barca, 56, from the RM of St. Andrews is charged with Assault, Discharge a Firearm While Being Reckless, Point Firearm x 3, Careless Use of a Firearm, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm.
