Man With Two Small Children Assaulted and Terrorized by Armed Suspects

GYPSUMVILLE – A man in a vehicle with two young children was chased through the community of Fairford and threatened with a firearm before the suspects fled in their vehicle.

The 21 year-old victim was driving his vehicle at about 5:15 A.M. on September 22 when another vehicle with the two suspects began to chase him through the community.

They eventually forced him to stop and pulled out a long barrelled firearm, pointing it at him while threatening him. They then got back in their car and sped away.

The victim took his children from the vehicle and approached a nearby home for assistance where they were provided a ride to the gas station and were met by police.

Police received information that the suspects vehicle was returning to Fairford and that the two suspects were intoxicated.

Officers returned to Fairford and located the suspect vehicle parked in a driveway and observed two males subsequently exit the residence. Both suspects were arrested and taken into police custody. A search of the vehicle did not locate any firearms.

A search warrant was prepared, authorized and executed at a residence in Fairford where officers located and seized four rifles, one shotgun, one pistol and ammunition.

Police have charged two males in relation to this incident.

54-year-old Kurt Woodford, from Fairford, is facing 12 Criminal Code charges including:

· Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

· Assault with a Weapon

· Assault

· Point Firearm

· Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

39-year-old Cory Sumner, from Fairford, is facing eight Criminal Code Charges including:

· Assault with a Weapon

· Assault

· Point Firearm

· Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

· Uttering Threats

Both males were remanded into custody with their first court appearance scheduled for September 23 in Winnipeg. They remain in custody at this time.

Gypsumville RCMP continue to investigate.
