WINNIPEG – Time certainly does fly when you’re doing what you love. After working for some of Canada’s largest media companies, including time as the Publisher and CEO of the Winnipeg Sun, I decided at the start of 2018 that our community needed a truly local and fully independent news source.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone and with the support of family and friends, I launched Manitoba Post online.
Shortly after the launch I went to visit a good friend, Dorothy Dobbie. She loves and believes in Manitoba, and when I told her what I wanted to do she immediately began sharing ideas on how we could grow together. She is inspiring, knowledgeable, and a very successful publisher in Manitoba. I couldn’t think of a better person or team to develop a working partnership with.
Together with Pegasus Publications, Dorothy Dobbie, and the Manitoba Post team of journalists, we work to provide quality local news, sports, arts and more daily at ManitobaPost.com. You can now read your favourite Pegasus Publications, The Hub and Lifestyles 55 at Manitoba Post anytime.
I am very proud of the success we’ve had at ManitobaPost.com in just six short months. Manitoba Post has grown more than 11,000 followers on Facebook. Recently, one of our readers left a comment on a story and that comment was crucial in helping Winnipeg Police find a missing boy. Manitoba Post has also started adding video from reporters to enhance our readers experience and so our readers can get to know our reporters better. June will be an exciting time for Manitoba Post as we launch a special Millennial Editorial Board. Manitoba Post has also launched its own Podcast on SoundCloud where we will feature interviews with newsmakers and much more. I will share more details on our website.
None of our success would be possible without our key sponsors. I must thank the people at Peak of the Market and Domino’s Pizza in Manitoba. Both organizations stepped up and partnered with us and I’m very grateful to them both. I am also very grateful for the tens of thousands of people that visit Manitoba Post every day to read our work, it means a great deal to each of us on the team. Thank you.
With this growing success on-line we felt it’s a good time to try and reinvent papers. We have all heard “Print is Dead” but maybe it’s just that papers haven’t adapted properly, so Dorothy and I are teaming up once again to launch a print version of the Manitoba Post.
The inaugural print edition of Manitoba Post will hit stands Friday. The paper will be available free in Downtown Winnipeg and sent to many businesses throughout the city. Manitoba Post will not be the paper for breaking news. You will continue to get your breaking news daily at ManitobaPost.com along with great local coverage of sports, weather, arts, and more.
The new print version will be more than headlines, it will be an extension of local news that matters. Manitoba Post will feature more in-depth stories as well as commentary from local trend setters. It will feature opinions from young people in our community and give them a voice platform online and in print.
Our promise online and in print will be the same:
- Tell the stories of Manitoba honestly, accurately, and proudly.
- Give you the facts from legitimate sources, 100% independent and trusted news coverage.
- We will NOT tell you what to think. We’ll give you the facts and let you form your own opinion.
Our hope online and in print is the same:
- Visit ManitobaPost.com daily, make us your homepage and tell your friends to visit us.
- Follow us for “Breaking News” on Twitter @manitobapost and “Like Us” on Facebook.
- Shop at the businesses that advertise with us online and in print. Let’s all support our local businesses!
- Continue to provide us with story tips, and comments. We need your help to be successful. Email me directly anytime at kevin@manitobapost.com.
We hope to prove big media companies wrong. We believe “LOCAL” is what people really want. Writers you know or want to get to know that are actually from Winnipeg. Writers that truly care about the community and aren’t afraid to speak up.
“Ian Leatt and I and all our crew at Pegasus are thrilled to partner with Kevin and his team at Manitoba Post on another new venture”, said Dorothy Dobbie. “Kevin believes, as I do, that local content is important to you. We want to share Manitoba’s news and views with you and we know that a combination of print plus digital gives everyone the best of both media worlds”. Dorothy also added, “We have many exciting new features planned for you and especially Millennials in our city”. Make Manitoba Post your home page and stay tuned into the heartbeat of our province”.
THANK YOU for supporting our team here at Manitoba Post.
