WINNIPEG – Two more Manitoba facilities that had been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic have had their outbreaks declared over. Revera, which owns Maples and Parkview Place Personal Care Homes in Winnipeg, says the outbreaks that left more than 80 residents at both homes dead have now come to an end. Staff say they’re not letting their guard down though, and will continue to use PPE and monitor and screen residents, staff, and visitors carefully.

Maples Personal Care Home saw Manitoba’s deadliest PCH outbreak of the virus after it was declared in mid-October. 55 residents died there due to COVID-19, eight within a 48-hour period, and more than 150 tested positive, along with 62 staff.

An outbreak at Parkview Place was also one of Manitoba’s deadliest. Nearly 30 residents there died due to COVID-19 since mid-September, and nearly 120 tested positive.

The WRHA has confirmed the end of the outbreaks, in addition to those at Middlechurch Home and Riverview Health Centre Long Term Care, which were also recently declared over. The health authority says there are outbreaks of COVID-19 at 22 of the 39 long term care facilities in Winnipeg.

Meanwhile Manitoba is reporting its lowest daily new COVID-19 cases count in almost three months.
