MGEU WANTS WORKERS REDEPLOYED

Manitoba Post StaffNews

WINNIPEG – While the province is talking about cutting back the hours of it’s workers during the CoVid-19 pandemic, at least one union leader is wondering why her members can’t be redeployed to other jobs. The head of the Manitoba Government Employees’ Union Michelle Gawronsky was one of almost two dozen union bosses on a conference call with Premier Brian Pallister earlier this week. He’s proposing non-essential workers only do their jobs part-time and collect employment insurance when they’re not working. But Gawronsky thinks it’s a better idea to keep everyone working and contributing to the economy by moving some employees to different tasks. She’d also like Pallister to be clear about who’s essential and who’s not.
