MPI WANTS BIG RATE CUT

Manitoba Post StaffNews

WINNIPEG – Manitoba Public Insurance is requesting the biggest rate decrease in 30 years.

If approved by the Public Utilities Board, overall rates would drop about 10.5 per cent or about $130 for the average policy holder.

“This historic rate decrease reflects the strong recent performance and financial position of our Corporation,” said Ben Graham, President and CEO, Manitoba Public Insurance. “While many private auto insurers across Canada are asking for double-digit rate increases, Manitobans are receiving the benefits of a well-executed public auto insurance model.”

If approved, this reduction would start taking effect next April.

The PUB will look at MPI’s request in October.
