WINNIPEG, MB – Let’s face it, we live in an aging society. That comes with many concerns not the least of which will be the rising health care cost we will face in ten or even five years. The Canadian medical system does not address or even consider aging as a disease, just something that happens.
The world has changed over the years, and we are living longer so we need to take action to enjoy our later years, to ensure we are not a burden on the health care system. We need to be proactive with how we age.
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing a renowned aging researcher and distinguished Professor, Dr. Paula Bickford. Dr. Bickford is a professor of neuroscience at the Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair at the University of South Florida Health Sciences Center. She is also a research career scientist at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Florida. Dr. Bickford’s studies have advanced the understanding of the effects of fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants on age-related deficits in learning and memory and on other biochemical and physiological markers.
She has dedicated her career to the study of aging and the role of inflammation and oxidative stress. She was the president of the American Aging Association in 2002 and has served on its governing board off and on for the past 15 years. I sat down with Dr. Bickford for a one on one at the University of South Florida to discuss aging and more.
Dr. Bickford is also the co-creator of a nutraceutical being sold as NutraStem Cardio, NutraStem Active, a supplement that supports your own stem cells.
