WINNIPEG – As the CoVid-19 pandemic continues, the city has announced several hundred layoffs. 674 non-permanent staff have been laid off temporarily. These are the people who’d normally be working at recreation centres, pools, arenas and libraries that suspended programming almost a month ago. Mayor Brian Bowman says they’re doing everything they can right now by moving employees to other jobs where possible. But because Winnipeg can’t legally operate in the red, more layoffs could be coming.
