Province Wants to Improve Organ & Tissue Donor Program

Manitoba PostNews

WINNIPEG, MB – Manitobans are invited to provide written submissions to the special, non-partisan Committee on Organ and Tissue Donation.

“Manitoba has long been known as the most generous province in Canada, yet many Manitobans do not make their wishes about the ultimate gift of generosity – organ and tissue donation – known to their families,” said Minister Cliff Cullen. “It is our hope the work of this committee will result in more Manitobans choosing the gift of life.”

The special, non-partisan committee of the legislative assembly, chaired by Reg Helwer, MLA for Brandon West, is tasked with examining opportunities to improve organ and tissue donation rates in Manitoba.

“I am encouraged that members from all political parties will be working together as we look to find ways to improve organ and tissue donation rates in Manitoba,” said Helwer. “We look forward to hearing from Manitobans as we continue this important conversation on organ and tissue donation.”

The committee will also be meeting with stakeholders through a series of meetings. These meetings are open to the public and will be held in:

  • Winnipeg – Wednesday, Feb. 28, Legislative Building, Room 255, 9 a.m.; and
  • Brandon – Friday, March 2, Regional Cabinet Board Room, Suite 247, 340 Ninth St., 11 a.m.

The feedback from both stakeholder meetings and written submissions from Manitobans will be used to develop recommendations that will be presented to government this spring.

Manitobans can provide their feedback to the committee via email to organdonation@leg.gov.mb.ca until March 2.
