Report: Racial Bias At WFPS

Manitoba Post StaffNews

WINNIPEG – All Winnipeg Fire Paramedic staff will undergo more education and training after an outside investigator discovered implicit racial bias in the service.

According to a leaked report, two firefighters failed to help with a badly hurt Indigenous woman after repeated requests from a paramedic. The paramedic is also a person of colour and had complained of previous racism.

Mayor Brian Bowman says this is disturbing and should offend everyone.

WFPS chief John Lane says the disciplinary process is ongoing and he can’t disclose what if any action will be taken as it’s a private human resources matter.

Arlen Dumas, Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, is calling for the firefighters to be fired.
