Security Guard Stabbed at Downtown Welfare Office

WINNIPEG – A 50 year-old security guard was stabbed while he was working at a Welfare Office yesterday afternoon and was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Witnesses say that the suspect jumped a counter and crossed a protective glass barrier between the staff and the public. The security guard asked the suspect to leave at which time he took out a knife and stabbed him.

47 year-old Louis-Nicolas Lamareux-Gagne was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and possessing a weapon.

He has been held in custody.

The victim has since been upgraded to stable condition.
