WINNIPEG – A serious incident early this morning has resulted in the backup of calls awaiting dispatch.

A stolen vehicle was spotted at around 2:30 this morning and Air 1 was able to track the car to a gas bar in Headingly. The incident escalated and while making sure that civilians were safe, one of the suspects took a marked Winnipeg Police cruiser.

He was eventually arrested near the TransCanada Highway and PTH 26 with the both RCMP and WPS involvement.

As a result of the significant police resources required, more than 300 calls for service are currently awaiting dispatch. The WPS will continue to triage calls on a priority basis.
