Sexual Assault Suspect Identified Through DNA

WINNIPEG – A suspect who sexually assaulted a woman on May 8 was apprehended this week after a DNA profile identified him.

55 year-old Douglas Wayne Bowman is a convicted federal offender who was identified after the Winnipeg Police Identification Unit received notification reporting DNA from the previously submitted sample matched a convicted federal offender.

In July, a warrant for the offence of Sexual Assault was issued for the incarcerated male suspect. A DNA warrant was obtained in October, and arrangements were made to have the suspect transferred to Manitoba.

Douglas Wayne Bowman has been charged with Sexual Assault with a Weapon and Uttering Threats. He has been returned to federal custody.
