Stolen SUV Rams Police Cars in Attempt to Escape

WINNIPEG – Another vehicle was taken by car thieves while it was left running. This one happened on January 20th on Centennial Street and was later used as a battering ram when the thieves were trying to get away from police.

Police spotted the stolen SUV on January 24th at 2:00am. on Main Street and followed it top Salter Street where they tried to stop the vehicle using several cruisers. The driver immediately began to ram the police cars while he was trying to escape.

Officers worked to remove the two occupants while the driver continued to ram vehicles and resist arrest. The driver and passenger were eventually safely removed from the stolen vehicle and taken into custody. There are no damage estimates available at this time.

23 year-old Jordan Malcolm Desjarlais has been charged with:

– Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

– Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer

– Resist Peace Officer

– Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

– Drive without licence or with invalid licence (Highway Traffic Act)

Desjarlais was also processed on four outstanding arrest warrants for charges that include:

– Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice

– Fail to Attend Court – Recognizance by Judge/Justice

He was detained in custody.

A 39-year-old man has also been arrested for:

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

The male was also processed on an outstanding arrest warrant for:

– Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance

He was released on a Promise to Appear.
