WINNIPEG – A suspect in a stolen vehicle tried to flee from police and ended up in hospital after his car lost control and crashed.
The stolen vehicle was initially used to escape an armed robbery at a beer vendor on McPhillips Street on May 22. Police spotted the vehicle the next night in the St. John’s area and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect lost control on the ramp between the eastbound lanes of the Perimeter Highway and the southbound lanes of Main Street.
Officers observed a male attempt to run from the crash but collapse soon after. The suspect was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition where he remains at this time.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified. Members of the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate.
