Two Men in Custody After Pointing Loaded Gun at Bar Staff

WINNIPEG – Police have two men in custody after receiving numerous calls Saturday night that a man was armed with a gun inside a bar/club in the 1100 block of Arlington Street.

AIR1, a K9 Unit and members of the Tactical Support Team responded. Staff of the club told police that the man with the handgun had left and may have been in the company of another man.

AIR1 spotted a man running in a rear lane of Alexander Avenue. Officers were directed him and he was taken into custody while trying to hide in a yard within the 800 block of Alexander Avenue. Police also found a loaded 9mm handgun.

The second man later returned to the Club and was placed under arrest after he was recognized by staff. A search of this man resulted in the seizure of a knife and three small bags of what is believed to be cocaine.

Police believe the two men went to leave the bar with drinks in-hand when security staff stopped them, at which time an altercation began. One of the men pulled a loaded handgun and pointed the gun at an employee before taking off.

The two men, aged 18 and 22, remain in police custody and face a number of charges.
