He was best known as Black Panther, the Marvel superhero, but he also portrayed Black American icons Jackie Robinson, James Brown and Thurgood Marshall.
As the family statement says, he underwent “countless surgeries and chemotherapy” to battle the cancer after being diagnosed at stage three in 2016. The whole time he fought the disease, he never spoke publicly about it.
