WINNIPEG – The auditor general isn’t happy with the way drinking water is managed in Manitoba.
A new report from Tyson Shtykalo says 40 per cent of the 1,200 water systems he looked at are operating without a license. And half of them didn’t have an operator with the proper level of training.
This worries Shtykalo, especially if there’s ever a water disaster like the E. Coli outbreak in Walkerton, Ontario which killed seven people 20 years ago. He’s urging the province to beef up inspections.
