WINNIPEG – A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in the death of a 21-month-old child.

On August 30th of this year around10:45PM police responded to a report of an unresponsive 21-month-old male child at a home in the first 100 block of Idlewild Bay.

The child was taken to hospital in critical condition, later he was pronounced dead.

A lengthy investigation by the Child Abuse Unit has resulted in the arrest of Allen Joseph Frier Beardy, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg.

Police believe that the child was injured by Beardy on two different occasions on August 30th. Once at a home in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue, and another time at the home on Idlewild Bay. The child was later found unresponsive by his mother who contacted 911.

Police say the baby boy had blunt force trauma injuries on this upper body.

Beardy has been charged with Manslaughter and has been detained in custody.
