WINNIPEG – A city councillor is trying to have a Winnipeg park renamed in honour of the city’s Inuit community.

Brian Mayes says he will put forward a motion this week to change the name of Bonaventure Park to Tunngasugit Park.

The proposed name translates to welcome.

A resource centre that supports Inuit is in favour of the motion, saying it gives the general public the opportunity to learn Inuktitut.
