WINNIPEG – Born in 1851 in Scotland, Donald Ross Dingwall immigrated to Canada to become a jeweller and watchmaker.
He began his trade as an apprentice in Ontario and in 1882, he moved to Winnipeg and established his own jewellery business.
Remnants of Dingwall’s merchandise exist today, such as this exquisite yellow gold pocket watch crafted in the 1920’s.
If this item was handcrafted by Dingwall himself, it would be sure to fetch a hefty sum. But because it was made in 1920, we know it wasn’t created by Dingwall because he passed away July 27, 1913.
However, this pocket watch is still a remarkable find and sold on eBay late last year for almost $600!
