Winnipeg Police Officer Stabbed

WINNIPEG, MB. – A Winnipeg police officer was stabbed Friday afternoon returning to his personal vehicle.

Friday, around 3:30 a.m., the officer was returning to his personal vehicle parked near Graham Ave. and Garry St. after completing his shift. As he approached his vehicle he saw a male peering through the window into his vehicle. The officer identified himself as a Police Officer and attempted to take hold of the suspect. It was at this point the suspect, Corey Whitford 45-years old of Winnipeg, produced a knife and stabbed the officer in the arm.

The officer began to chase Whitford as he again identified himself as a Police Officer and while calling 911 from his cell phone. Police units arrested a Whitford a short distance away.

The injured officer was treated in hospital and released.

Corey Clifford Whitford, 45, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

– Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon

– Assault with a Weapon

– Possess Weapon

– Escape Lawful Custody

– Fail to Comply Conditions (Undertaking)

– Warrant of Arrest x 5

The accused was detained in custody.
