Manitoba Post StaffNews

WINNIPEG – Eight victims between the ages of 78-100 had personal items stolen from them while being cared for in a personal care home on Henderson Highway.

The rash of thefts came to the attention of police after the daughter of a 93 year-old woman reported that her mother was missing her wedding ring and engagement ring which she could not remove on her own.

Police identified eight victims, all missing jewelry. Some of the jewelry was determined to have been forcibly removed from the seniors who are living with dementia and are considered vulnerable persons.

On April 2, 2019, an employee of the personal care home, a 37-year-old female was arrested for 8 counts of Theft Under $5,000. She was released on a Promise to Appear.

Investigators were able to recover some, but not all of the stolen jewelry.
