The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra has announced another positive year with a surplus of $32,207 for the 2017-2018 season. This surplus contributes to an overall accumulated surplus of $523,713.

Terry Sargeant, Board President said, “The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s 70th season has provided many opportunities to celebrate the past history of the orchestra, enjoy excellent performances in this season, and also to set a direction for the future of the orchestra. While each season has defining opportunities and challenges, this 70th season has proven to be a wonderful success on an artistic and financial basis. Thanks to robust ticket sales and generous contributions by individuals and corporations, the WSO is pleased to report its 11th consecutive operating surplus at May 31, 2018.”

Executive Director Trudy Schroeder reported, “The WSO’s 70th anniversary season was filled with festivities, commemorative opportunities, and many reasons to be thankful for the rich and varied traditions and strengths of this organization. We are so pleased that our 70th season was an artistic, community service, and financial success. In many ways it was also a year of major transitions as we said farewell to Alexander Mickelthwate and also engaged in the process of finding the WSO’s ninth Music Director.”

“This was a very satisfying season on so many levels. We look forward to the coming year and the coming decades with optimism,” continued Schroeder. “We know that the rich artistic tradition linked to symphonic music has enduring value and benefits for our current population and for the future. We remain committed to the wonders of creation from generations past and at the same time determined to joyfully embrace the new opportunities, challenges, and changing issues and priorities of the community we serve.”
