WINNIPEG – Thanks to great work by of members of the Bear Clan, police captured and arrested a man who was carrying weapons in Winnipeg.
Friday night the Bear Clan was around Pritchard Avenue and McKenzie Street when they overheard a group of people talking about a firearm. They also spotted a woman carrying a machete in a purse.
Police responded quickly and located the group in a back lane near Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street. As officers approached, a man dropped a bag and an object and the group ran off.
Officers quickly gave chase on foot and captured the man in a yard in the 500 block of Flora Avenue.
A search of the area where the items had been dropped resulted in the seizure of a long gun-style replica air rifle in a bag and a handgun-style replica air pistol.
Police arrested Robert John Arthur Prince, a 33-year-old man of Winnipeg, and charged him with:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x8)
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x5)
