28 Year-Old Steinbach Woman in Hospital After New Year’s Assault

STEINBACH – A 28 year-old Steinbach woman is in serious condition in hospital after being assaulted at a home on McKenzie Avenue.

On January 1 at about 1:30 am, when RCMP initially arrived at the home they found a man trying to break in to a parked vehicle. When they tried to restrain him, he fought with police and received minor injuries when he broke the car window.

Once police entered the home they found a woman with serious injuries. She was immediately taken to the hospital and was later transferred to Winnipeg.

A 35-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries when he tried to help the female victim.

RCMP have charged 27-year-old Harley Delorme with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Aggravated Assault, Assault on Police Officer, Resist Arrest and Mischief Under $5000. He has been remanded in custody and will be appearing in Winnipeg Provincial Court on January 2, 2019.

The suspect and the female victim were known to each other.
