4 Youths Arrested After Crime Spree in Silver Heights

WINNIPEG – Four youths were arrested after an overnight rampage, including crashing a stolen car, firing a weapon at a victim during a carjacking and spraying Bear Mace at the same victim.

The suspects first crashed a stolen truck into a tree on Olive Street. They then began to case cars in the Silver Heights area. At one point, one of the suspects armed himself with a stolen handgun and fired a shot at an unoccupied vehicle.

Police, along with the K9 Unit took one of the suspects into custody near Lodge Avenue as he attempted to get away.

At approximately 8:10 a.m., the three remaining suspects carjacked a 51-year-old female as she exited her vehicle in the 2700 block of Portage Avenue. During the incident, one of the suspects pointed the handgun at the victim and pulled the trigger, but the firearm didn’t fire. He then produced a can of bear spray and sprayed the victim. The three suspects then fled the area on foot without the vehicle.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., police, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, took the three suspects into custody in the area of Portage Avenue and the Perimeter Highway. A search of the area by the K9 Unit resulted in the recovery of the stolen handgun.

A 14-year-old female, a 15-year-old female, and two 17-year-old males have been arrested for numerous weapon and theft-related offences.

They were detained in custody.
