WINNIPEG – A five hour standoff ended peacefully after an armed man who refused to exit his apartment surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

Officers first responded to the call at an apartment on Ellice Avenue at about 3:35 PM. The armed suspect refused to exit the suite he was in when requested by police resulting in a five-hour standoff. At approximately 9:00 PM he surrendered to police and was safely taken into custody.

A search of the suite occupied by the suspect resulted in officers seizing two .177 Calibre BB pistols.

No one was physically injured as a result of this incident.

29 year-old Scott Jason John Gibbs has been charged with:

Possession of a Weapon X2

Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X6

He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
