WINNIPEG – A gun, a crash, an armed and barricaded situation and a fire took most of the day for the Winnipeg Police as a suspect tried to evade them.
The began at about 1:15 PM. yesterday when police responded to a report of a firearm-related incident at a home in the Chalmers area. Shortly after a vehicle was involved in a collision on the Nairn Overpass and the suspect ran away on foot.
The suspect then entered a home on Nairn Avenue and threatened to shoot officers. The Tactical Support Team was brought in as it had become an armed and barricaded situation.
The three residents that were trapped in the home with the suspect were safely removed over the course of the afternoon and evening.
Just after 8:00 PM. a fire was spotted in the home a quickly progressed. Police forced entry through a fortified window and grabbed the suspect, pulling him to safety.
The male suspect has been transported to hospital in stable condition for precautionary reasons and remains in police custody.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit are continuing with the investigation. More information is expected to be released.
