A Strong 3rd Period Didn’t Help the Manitoba Moose

WINNIPEG, MB. – The Manitoba Moose lose to the Iowa Wild again at the MTS Centre in front of 5,641 fans.

The Moose scored first in the game with a goal by Sami Niku with 5:06 left in the period. The lead didn’t last long as the Wild replied with just 16 seconds remaining in a a five minute power play goal. The first ended tied at 1.

The second period did not start well for the Moose. The Wild scored three goals in the first five minutes to take a 4-1 lead. Iowa got he goals from, Landon Ferraro, Kyle Rau nad Sam Anas. The Moose did push back late in the third, but Wild goaltender Steve Michalek kept Maniotoba off the board and carried the 4-1 advantage into the third.

The Moose got back within two early in the third, on a very pretty goal from Nic Petan. But again, the Wild replied immediately with a Justin Kloos goal. Manitoba added another at 4:38 into the period, when Niku popped a loose puck to the back of the net for his second of the game. Brody Sutter put the comeback push into full swing for Manitoba by finishing off a Tucker Poolman pass with 6:07 remaining. Sutter’s goal was as close as the Moose would come. Manitoba posted three goals on 25 shots in the third period, but fell to Iowa by a 5-4 count.
