Arrests Made in Liquor Mart Robberies, One Man is Facing 82 Charges Another Man Facing 52 Charges

WINNIPEG – Police make two arrests in connection with multiple Liquor Mart robberies in the city beginning in February.

Police said between February 14, 2018, and August 20, 2018, a man went to various Liquor Mart locations around the city. The man would enter the store, select several liquor bottles and leave without making any attempt to pay.

On Monday police arrested Matthew James Swampy, an 18-year-old man from Winnipeg, and charged him with numerous theft-related offences for his role in 52 thefts.

Between March 19, 2018, and September 7, 2018, another man visited various Liquor Mart locations around the city as well. Similar to the other suspect, the man would enter the store, select several liquor bottles and leave without making any attempt to pay.

Tuesday police arrested David Norman Lee Ross, an 18-year-old man from Winnipeg, and charged him with numerous theft-related offences for his role in 80 theft incidents.
