WINNIPEG – The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open today after being closed to the public since November 12 in response to new public health restrictions. Assiniboine Park Conservancy Chief Operations Officer Bruce Keats says as a thank you to guests for doing what they can to fight the COVID-19, and for their patience in waiting for the re-open, admission is getting a one-month 25 per cent discount.

“As a large outdoor attraction with over acres, we are pleased to be in a position to re-open,” Keats says, “and are looking forward to safely welcoming visitors back to the zoo.”

The zoo is encouraging visitors to buy their tickets online to reduce contact during entry, although, if you are unable to access their website, tickets are still available at the gate. Tickets bought online can be used any time within 90 days.

It isn’t just admission that’s getting 25 percent off: gift shop patrons can get that discount on some purchases there as well.

What to know:

– The Zoo is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day

– The zoo is asking visitors to observe physical distancing there, and to not visit the zoo if they feel unwell, even if symptoms are minor.

– The gift shop is open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm every day, and capacity is limited to 25 per cent.

– Dress for the weather (on Saturday in Winnipeg, the wind chill is -11 with periods of snow).

– Masks are required at the zoo entrance, gift shop, and washroom facilities.

– Take-out food is available at the restaurant and concession.

– For now, all indoor exhibits are staying closed.
