WINNIPEG — It was a shinny finish for Manitoba Bison athletes at the 2018 Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa.
Manitoba Bison athletes won silver in both the men’s 4 x 100m (U20) and men’s 4 x 400m relay (senior).
Getting the silver in the 4 x 100m (U20) was the Bison Athletics Club in a time of 42.51. The team was made up of Sebastien Regnier (2nd year), Luc Deleau (2nd year), Alec Dickson (2nd year), and Marcel Dufault (2nd year).
In the 4 x 400m relay (senior), the Stride Ahead Tough Track Club finished in second with a time of 3:21.31. The team was comprised of Alec Dickson (2nd year), Matthew Exner (1st year), Simon Berube (4th year), and Tristan Allen (3rd year).
Bison track and field head coach Claude Berube talked about the championship results. “This is just another example of how track and field is growing in the province. It’s also helping our program with the results we saw on the weekend.”
In field events, Oyinko Akinola (4th year) finished seventh in the men’s high jump (senior) at 2.08m.
In individual track events, Luc Deleau narrowly missed out on the podium in the men’s 200m (U20), as his fourth-place 21.89 was bested by just four one-hundredths of a second. Deleau also finished fifth in the men’s 400m (U20) with a 49.27. Marcel Dufault finished fifth in the men’s 100m (U20) with a 10.86.
Tegan Turner (5th year) finished seventh in the women’s 200m (senior) with a 24.04. Turner also finished eighth in the 100m (senior) with a 11.95.
