ISLAND LAKE – RCMP in Island Lake are investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy who was reported missing and found in a near by lake.
RCMP said on October 12, just after midnight, they received a call from First Nation Safety Officers in St. Theresa Point First Nation advising of a presumed drowning of a 4-year-old boy from the community.
Police said they determined that the child was last seen at approximately 4:40PM on Thursday, October 11th in close proximity to a family member’s home on St. Theresa Point First Nation.
First Nation Safety Officers were notified of the missing child around 11:00PM and with the help of community members, a ground search was conducted. Close to midnight, the child’s body was located in the lake on the east shore by searchers. The child was taken to the nursing station where he was pronounced dead.
The RCMP continue to investigate.
