WINNIPEG – With the Winnipeg Blue Bombers pre-season schedule set to kick off in three weeks, the club continues to add to their roster as training camp inches closer.
Quarterbacks and CFL newcomers will arrive in Winnipeg next week and be on the field for the opening of rookie camp, which begins Wednesday, May 16th, with veterans set to report on May 19th and begin practicing on May 20th.
The Bombers announced they’ve added international wide receiver Donteea Dye, and International defensive lineman Brandin Bryant to the roster.
Dye, caught 116 passes for 2,298 yards and 26 touchdowns over three seasons with Heidelberg University Athletics. In 2015, the 5’10, 195-pounder from Cincinnati, OH signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent and in two seasons with the Buccaneers caught 11 passes for 132 yards in 11 games.
Bryant, a former undrafted Seattle Seahawks signing who also spent time on the New York Jets roster in 2016, spent four seasons with the Florida Atlantic Owls (NCAA Division 1), where the 6’2, 289 pound defensive lineman recorded 121 tackles and 9.5 sacks.
In addition to adding Bryant and Dye, the Bombers also added some recent draft picks to the training camp roster.
Offensive lineman Matthew Ouellet De Carlo (OL), selected by the Bombers 49th overall in last week’s draft, spent the last four seasons with the Bishop’s Gaiters.Last season, the two-time Academic All-Canadian participated in the 2017 U Sports East-West bowl and in 2016 was named linemen of the year for the Gaiters. Jacob Firlotte (DB) Ben Koczwara (OL).
Defensive back Jacob Firlotte (58th overall selection) and offensive lineman Ben Koczara (67th overall selection) will also be attending training camp.
The team has also released International quarterback Philip Nelson.
Winnipeg hosts the Edmonton Eskimos Friday in their first pre-season game Friday, June 1st at Investors Group Field with the two clubs meeting in the first game of the CFL season on June 14th at IGF.
